Challenge of Small Business Essay Example

Challenge of Small Business Essay Example Challenge of Small Business Essay Challenge of Small Business Essay Small businesses are often faced with many challenges. One of the biggest problems faced by small businesses is providing suitable benefits for employees, namely health insurance. Employer provided health insurance is The research process to developing a paper requires time, time and more time. It is best to begin to think about the chosen topic for a couple of hours or even days before beginning. A brief search of the chosen topic to ensure enough information is available to support research. If there is little information, a change in topics may be a wise choice. The first step in the research process is to identify a topic. Ensuring there is enough information available to support the paper or take the time to conduct primary research if the topic allows. For instance, on the topic of most common workplace fears, interviewing several employees at work and a few friends may be enough to begin a research paper on that topic. After a topic is chosen, the fun begins. Develop a thesis statement and identify a few key words to begin. Create an outline to assist with organizing ideas and research. Insert key words in an internet engine to begin the search. The internet is the fastest and most convenient starting point. It contains all sorts of information and information is abundant about any topic. The more information found in the beginning; the better the chances of completing the research paper without having to go back and conduct more research. Magazines, periodicals, online journals and so forth are accessible from the internet. Remember to cite works along the way as this makes it easier to complete the reference page in the end. Abundant information does not always mean accurate information, especially from the internet. Sometimes it can be difficult to validate information found on the internet because information is not regulated. Information must be evaluated for accuracy, objectivity and currency. Using recent information from trust worthy authors is one way to ensure accuracy. It is imperative to search on well known websites, school libraries such as Pro quest, national magazines and so forth. The information contained on these sites may be more accurate than others and the chance of receiving malicious malware is lessened. Once the internet search is complete, take a trip to the library to conduct research the old way. The librarian will be excited to assist with searches. Conduct primary research and speak with a few colleagues or business associates that are professionals on the chosen topic. Ensuring all work is cited properly following American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines and giving others credit for their work is the last step in the process. It is best to do the bulk of citing during the research process. Trying to cite works after the fact is a little difficult and often times some items will be unintentionally overlooked.

No More Used Cars

No More Used Cars No More Used Cars No More Used Cars By Maeve Maddox Time was, a car that no longer belonged to its original owner was a used car. Clothing that had changed hands was second-hand clothing or, in a family, hand me downs. Not anymore. Apparently, in our consumer society, thrift is still practiced, but admitting to it is not cool. Old clothes are now sold in consignment shops, not second-hand stores. Used cars are advertised as previously owned. but now even that euphemism may be on its way out. This week I received an advertising mailer offering deals on reprocessed cars. At first I thought the printer had made a mistake for repossessed. Apparently the company sending the mailer anticipated such a reaction because a definition was thoughtfully provided: Reprocessed Vehicle (noun) A late model pre-owned vehicle that has undergone a 27-point interior and exterior mechanical and safety inspection and conditioning and has been warranted for reliability. British writer David Rowan offers several more euphemisms for the embarrassing word used : pre-enjoyed, previously cared for, and experienced. Rowan has gathered a fascinating list of very scary euphemisms from serious news stories. Many of the expressions are U.S. coinages. The Pentagon seems to be an especially prolific contributor to the class of words that fall upon the facts like soft snow, blurring the outlines and covering up all the details. See how close you can come to what these euphemisms are supposed to mean. fiscal underachiever HRP immediate permanent incapacitation NBC suit real-time precipitation situation sidewalk counseling toy soldier urban camping welcome station wildlife conservation park Check your answers against Rowans list (Update: link no longer online). Metabical Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Metabical - Case Study Example However, Metabical has faced competition ever since the FDA approved an OTC drug known as Alli. Therefore, Cambridge Sciences Pharmaceuticals had to come up with new marketing strategies, such as advertisements on TV, radio, celebrity endorsement and printed advertisements in medical publications. Its top priority was to ensure that patients gain knowledge and awareness of the drug. A Metabical potential customer is, therefore, required to make a well informed decision before settling for Metabical drug2. First, an overweight patient should be willing to lose weight either to be healthy or to avoid discrimination from others. Secondly, after an overweight patient is aware of their condition, they are required to start an exercising program and ask health care providers for assistance when they need it. Thirdly, after consulting healthcare providers, the consumers are required to consider and engage a different method that could be easier in achieving their goal of losing weight. Last ly, if all the other methods fail, the health care providers can recommend the use of the Metabical drug under observation. This way, patients can observe their progress in weight loss as well as evaluate the effectiveness of Metabical. Consumers and health care providers are the parties involved in the decision making process. This is because they are the target market for the Metabical drug. As such, it is also important to note that Metabical is a prescription drug that can only be acquired through a prescription. However, CPS should place into consideration the concerns raised over new weight loss drugs and focus on providing solutions to solve any problems that may arise. In addition, CSP should make up marketing communication strategies that attract consumer awareness, elicit their interest and arouse their desire hence purchasing the Metabical weight loss drug. However, these marketing communication strategies must be tailor-made to suit the interests of different targets3. I t is important to note that the consumer decision making process goes through some stages. The first stage entails recognition of the need for the Metabical drug. Many overweight people lack self esteem and consider themselves as outcasts. For instance, given an American case, more than sixty five percent of Americans are overweight. Here, the Metabical drug share needs with the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs that include the need for belongingness and love for companionship since no one likes to be excluded4. The next stage is alternative search, where the prospective consumer collects information from marketing sources such as advertisements, public sources such as newspapers and magazines. Some consumers opt to ask friends who have tried diet drugs before, family and health care experts for suggestions on recommendable overweight drugs. So far, the prospective consumers have been exposed to adequate information on diet drugs. The next step involves evaluation of available alt ernatives rather than Metabical drug. In this case, the consumer compares the Metabical drug to other products such as OTC products, the Alli drug, ephedrine and many others5. The consumer is also able to evaluate the ingredients of the drugs and rule out those that they may be allergic to. In this step the consumers’ objectives are to discover the side effects and the

This figure is significantly higher than the married couples who are not able to save anything beyond their retirement funds. Freer Trade Stolen disclaimer :: Essays Papers

Freer Trade Stolen disclaimer â€Å"It is not one single cause that makes nations either prosperous or miserable. No friend of free trade is such an idiot as to say that free trade is the only valuable thing in the world; that religion, government, police, education, the administration of justice, public expenditure, foreign relations, have nothing whatever to do with the well being of nations† Macaulay 1845. If we could call free trade the string that ties nations together. Then we could say that the rule of law, education, a justice system, all part of a government, are basic binding points of free trade among nations. With Macaulay’s very eloquent disclaimer in mind we can say that free trade does exist and has been very successful, but it has yet to achieve its full potential. The full potential of free trade has not been achieved because these basic binding points have found themselves lacking in one way or another of Adam Smith’s’ economic ideal. Adam’s logic What is prudence in the conduct of every family can scarce be folly in that of a great kingdom. If a foreign country can supply us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can make it, better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own industry, employed in a way in which we have some advantage. The general industry of the country†¦ will not thereby be diminished†¦ but only left to find out the way in which it can be employed with the greatest advantage. It is certainly not employed to the greatest advantage, when it is thus directed towards an object, which it can buy cheaper than it can make. AdamSmith1799. Adam Smith makes an invitation to apply as a nation what we already do as individuals. So free trade is an international extension of what we do everyday in providing and buying services from others. The key to success in doing this according to Adam Smith is specialization. A country must find an industry where it can have an absolute advantage by specialization and let other countries provide other products and services. David Ricardo added that if comparative advantage (usually by lower cost) beats you at something you are good take advantage of opportunity cost and spend your efforts on what you are best at that others don’t produce. Adam’s utopia The obvious and simple system of natural liberty, advocated by Adam Smith, in which individuals would be free to pursue their own interests, while the government provided infrastructure, and a legal framework within which commerce would take place was very idealistic.

Ethical Awareness Essay

Ethics could be defined as the moral philosophy, which tackles the concepts of right and wrong. In the field of philosophy, ethics is concerned in the defending and recommending of one’s behavior. Meanwhile, in the case of organizations, ethics enables an organization member to come up with sound and mature decisions. Ethical awareness, meanwhile, is a vital factor in the success and the relation of members within the organization—or the society as a whole. On the other hand, ethical awareness inventory refers â€Å"to a series of broad characterizations representing four prominent categories of ethical philosophy. † This practically helps in the analysis of an individual’s perspective on ethics, according to the answers given to the set of questions that need to be answered. The Combined Score would most likely reflect the individual’s perspective on ethics in general. The results that my test gained showed obligation is the greatest consideration I think of when talking about ethics. It mainly involves, perhaps, my preference of those individuals who value responsibilities with emphasis on taking actions based on ethical principles. In dealing with other people, for instance, Obligation is the main factor I look into for an action or individual to be considered ethical. It means that if a person duly respond to his/her duties and responsibilities which, of course, for the greatest good, it means being ethical for me. Meanwhile, the least consideration I have, based on the results in Equity. It means that I do not consider â€Å"equality† as synonymous to being ethical. Perhaps, it is because Equality is not just easy to achieve since â€Å"some are more equal than others†, as a popular author puts it. In a society where stratification is very much evident, equality can never be a main factor for me for an individual or action to be considered ethical. The results are mainly affected of the brand of education experience I had through the years. The utilization of alternative learning strategies for ethical awareness have helped me develop or think of plans that would incorporate ethics into other aspects of the organization. Emphasis could be given to â€Å"active-learning† approaches. The challenge in using â€Å"active-learning† for the facilitator is to cope with the susceptibility of each individual to ignore the importance of doing such. The active kind of learning is mainly comprised of five steps: †¢ Discovery of the predicament or problem within the organization; †¢ Identification of the possible tools and resources that would help in finding solutions for the problems; †¢ Examination or scrutiny of the alternative strategies that could be helpful in solving the problems; †¢ Implementation of the specific solution that was chosen; †¢ Reflection on the solution that was implemented, assessment of the consequences of the solution or the outcome. The issue on ethical awareness is usually taken for granted by some individual. In reality, ethical awareness is one of the greatest and most crucial factors that would determine the success or downfall of a society. Ethical awareness means fulfilling one’s duties and obligations in order to contribute to the general growth of the society Collective effort is much needed for the development of a society, and without ethical awareness inferred from the individual within, there could never be an assurance that a society would develop. Aside from the benefits of ethics awareness in the sum of the society, it would also benefit each individual as it would provide them maturity, self-disclosure, and self-realization, among others.

Overcoming College Student Homesickness

Overcoming College Student Homesickness You may have spent so much time preparing for college that you may not have considered how much youd miss being back home. While homesickness is common for the majority of college students, it can be difficult to overcome. The key to handling it is understanding where its coming from and knowing what you can realistically do about it. Dont Be Too Harsh on Yourself Being homesick is often a sign that you have happy, healthy relationships with people back at home. You may miss your family, your friends, your boyfriend or girlfriend, or just your old routines and familiarity. Even though many students wont talk about it, a very large number of first-year and transfer students experience homesickness during their first few months at school. So, even if no one you know is talking about it, rest assured that many of your classmates are going through the same thing. Dont be too harsh on yourself for experiencing something that is completely normal and part of many students college experience. Let Yourself Be Sad... For a Little While Trying to fight your way through homesickness can often be futile. But letting yourself process through your emotions can be a great way of dealing with them. Trying to be stoic might end up backfiring on you, and since homesickness is a part of many peoples college experience, its important to let it process itself out. So give yourself a day here or there to be sad about all that you left behind. But make sure to pick yourself up and not be too sad the next day. A pity day here or there is alright, but if you find yourself having many in a row or feeling overwhelmingly sad, you may want to think about talking to someone in the campus counseling center. You definitely wont need to worry about being the first student in there who misses home! Be Patient With Yourself If youre a first-year student, youve probably made more major changes in your life than you ever have before, and if youre a transfer, you may be used to being in school, but not this school. Consider what youve done: youve started at an entirely new institution, where you probably dont know anyone at all. You might be in a new city, state, or even country. You have a new lifestyle to manage, where every hour of your day is unlike how you spent your time even 4 or 6 weeks ago. You have new responsibilities that are pretty heavy, from managing finances to learning a new academic system and culture. You may also be living on your own for the first time and learning all kinds of things that you hadnt even thought to ask about before you left. Any one of those changes would be enough to throw someone for a loop. Wouldnt it be a little surprising if someone didnt experience homesickness from everything? So be patient with yourself, just like you would be with a friend. You probably wouldnt judge a friend for being homesick after making such major changes in his or her life, so dont judge yourself unfairly. Let yourself be a little sad, take a deep breath, and do what you can to make your new school your new home. After all, wont it feel fantastic when you realize that, next summer when youre back home, youre homesick for school to start again?

How to find your first job out of college - TheJobNetwork

How to find your first job out of college  - TheJobNetwork If you’ve recently graduated college then congratulations are in order- you’ve reached a significant life milestone and should be proud of your accomplishment! That said, just because you’ve achieved this goal doesn’t mean your work is done. For many people, graduating from college is the starting point for the next big life challenge- the job and career journey. Unless you’re lucky enough to not have to work (or get rich quick by inventing something amazingly innovative and are able to retire early to some sunny and tropical beach), most of our professional journeys span several decades and are a major part of our overall life satisfaction. Therefore, it’s worth your time and effort to take your first job out of college seriously; often, your first job after graduation can set the tone, pace, and trajectory for your climb up the career ladder- so plan carefully.Today’s job market is no easy environment. On top of intense competition (b oth from other new graduates and seasoned work veterans) across most industries and sectors, economic uncertainty, increasing globalization, and rapidly changing technological innovation that’s revolutionizing the staffing needs of companies means that recent graduates face significant challenges when seeking their first jobs.Yes, unless you’re incredibly lucky or well-connected, chances are you’ll face some challenges as you hunt for your first job out of college- but don’t despair! The truth is, those who work hard and dedicate themselves fully to their job-search efforts have the best chance of landing their target jobs and beginning their career journeys on the right foot, while those who take a more casual or lackadaisical approach will likely face a bigger struggle.Which approach are you going to take?If you’re fresh out of college or soon will be, consider utilizing the following strategies for locking down your first job and moving forward on your path to professional success.Determine your target fieldIn order to conduct an effective job hunt you need a clearly defined target- the industry, field, or sector that you’d like to work in. Consider this your â€Å"starting point,† the direction you’d like to move towards and where you’d like to devote your professional energy and efforts.Use your college experience as a guide- what is your degree in? Did you have any internships or extracurricular or volunteer experiences that can help inform your choice? Are there trusted mentors or family members who can help you figure out a potential career fit for you?Use the research tools at your disposal to get a closer look and a better perspective of the fields that seem attractive to you. For example, many industries have professional associations that maintain an active online presence, including websites with loads of helpful job and career information. Your college’s career office may also have additional resources and may even hold special events like job fairs and info sessions to help you get started. Also, keep an eye and ear out for professional networking events in your town or city. Use your experience, interests, passions, research, and the trusted advice of others to take this crucial first step and determine the target field that feels right to you.Determine your goal positionOnce you have a target field in your sights, focus on a position that you’d like to pursue. Be realistic- you may want to start at the top (and stay there), but very few folks get CEO jobs straight out of college. You’re more than likely going to have to pay your dues while you learn the industry, so focus on assistant-level or junior-level positions to start. Look at people whose career trajectories mirror your aspirations and see how they started their first jobs in the field. See if your background, education, and experiences have prepared you for realistically pursuing your goal position. If so, then go for it!Prepare yourselfOnce you know the position and field you’re aiming for, use the job search tools at your disposal- everything from online job sites to resources at your college, professional connections in your network, and job events in your town- to find suitable open positions. Research companies in your target industry and see if their official websites have career pages that list available job openings. Then prepare yourself for what will hopefully be a steady stream of potential opportunities. Make sure your cover letters and resumes are professional, polished, and perfectly targeted for the jobs you’re going after. Make sure your interview skills are razor sharp (remember, practice makes perfect). Having the desire to get a new job is great, but it won’t help you leap ahead of the competition. You’ll need a complete pitch-perfect package if you’re going to make your goal a reality.Don’t let f ailure stop youA key component of a successful job hunt is patience and determination. Very few of us land a job after just one interview- or even after a few attempts. The truth is, a job hunt is more like a waiting game, with plenty of rejection and disappointment along the way. Don’t let this discourage or deter you in your quest to land your first job out of college- stay focused and determined, learn from what you did right and wrong, and be confident that each attempt will be better than the last as you move closer and closer towards success.

The Bank of Enlgand Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Bank of Enlgand - Coursework Example The governments and the central banks in all the economies of the world formulate their financial strategies to ensure that the inflation rates do not rise to high levels. However a comparatively more dangerous scenario arises when the inflation rates actually reach negative values, or deflation, because a case of deflation can damage the economy much more than a high inflation rate. Most central banks aim to control the inflation rates to low yet positive rates which are usually at 2-3%, and this is done by keeping the equilibrium point of aggregate demand and aggregate supply at the desired level, as shown in the figure on the right. The same has been the aim of the Bank of England, which is the central bank of England, to keep the inflation rates just above 2% during the financial period. This target has been in the strategy of the Bank of England since the past two years because a positive low inflation rate which is stable and under control is considered the best for the economy . The factors of exactly why deflation is a worse scenario than inflation will be discussed later on in the assignment. Inflation rate is determined by three measures which are Consumer Price Index (CPI), Retail Price Index (RPI) and RPIX. CPI is a measure of the change in the price of consumer goods and services. RPI is calculated by measuring the change in price of all the retail goods and service in the economy. Last is the RPIX which is used in the United Kingdom and is calculated by subtracting mortgage interest payments from RPI. Types of Inflation Inflation is when the general prices of the goods and services in an economy are increasing. Due to the rise in the prices, it has a negative effect on the purchasing power of the money in the economy. Such is because the people can buy a lesser quantity of goods and services with the same amount of money compared to the last year. There are two types of inflation which are anticipated and unanticipated inflation, and both of them c reate a different impact on the economy. (tutor2u, n.d.) The first type of inflation is anticipated inflation is when the inflation rate can be correctly calculated and the people can protect themselves from its effects. An example of anticipated inflation and protect oneself from it is when the labor union collectively bargains for a wage rise in order to keep the real wages at the same level. They are able to bargain because they are aware of the inflation rate and keep in accordance with it. The second type of inflation is unanticipated inflation. The truth is that the inflation rates can never be predicted to an exact level and the actual interest rate may usually vary to the calculated inflation rate. This variance is called the unanticipated inflation rate, and it exists because the inflation rates are very volatile from year to year and therefore it becomes difficult to correctly predict the rate. Since it is unknown, the people cannot protect themselves from it (Gillespie, 2 007, pp. 382-383). An example of this is when a natural disaster such as an earthquake or flood, there is a sudden increase in demand for tents. This situation is showed in the figure above. Inflation is caused by cost push and demand pull factors. Cost push inflation is when the rise in prices occurs due to the rise in prices of the raw materials. When the prices of the raw materials increase, the aggregate supply in the economy decreases and the curve shifts to the
